Sunfire
Shiro Yoshida's beginnings are shrouded in hatred and violence. His mother was
wounded by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima during WWII. His father was a
statesman working to rebuild Japan after the war, but often was away from home.
Shiro was left in the care of his uncle, Tomo, whose anti-American feelings rubbed
off on Shiro. Tomo took Shiro to Hiroshim and had him touch the still-radioactive
soil in an attempt to awaken his mutant powers. It was successful, and Sunfire
was born.
Originally intending to destroy America with his powers, several events have
softed his outlook, including the sacrifice of his father to defend America. He
has aided the X-Men on several occasions, but he has declined to remain a steady
member because of his love for Japan. His powers to ionize the air around him
and others, generatiing great amounts of heat, have come in quite handy. He can
fly, throw fire from his hands, and even irradiate enemies.
