Final Fantasy V
Review by Philip Burns
Well, i'm gonna come right out and say it, this game blew! This
is easily the worst rpg i've ever had the misfortune of playing. And if you liked
this rpg, i really have to question your intelligence. What does this game offer
you? Besides being difficult as hell, and having the worst characters EVER in
any rpg? Bad graphics, bad story, bad & forgettable characters, forgettable music,
and a bad main enemy = bad game. The one thing this game has is a very nice job/class
system, but that's not near enough to make this game bearable.
STORY
Something about 4 elemental crystals, dawn warriors, saving the
world, yadda, yadda, yadda. This games story was just plain blah! The main bad
guy was some scrub that couldn't hold Sephiroth's jock. X-Death? Give me a damn
break! This game also sported possibly the worst translation ever. Have you ever
seen so many Typo's? They misspelled the main enemies name in the very last fight
for gods sake. Fire the bastard that did this translation now please.
The characters have basically no story to them, it honestly seemed like square
threw this game together in a week. It's really just sad that a final fantasy
game could be so bad. If you must play this game, don't say i didn't warn you,
but also don't let this piece of crap keep you from buying FF Anthology, cuz FF6
is very nice, and warrants the purchase itself.
Score: 2/10
SOUND/MUSIC
To be completely honest, i don't recall the music in this game,
hence it blew!!! I really don't care about music & sound in an rpg, it means very
little to me, unless it has some unforgettable song i will always love, ala Lunar
boat song, FF6 theme song, the opening song to Thousand Arms, and the spaceship
song in FF8. Don't you feel better now that you know that? Anyway, the music was
just your average run of then mill rpg stuff, nothing you'll be humming in your
head (what, no i don't do that), so don't expect much.
Score: 5/10
GRAPHICS
Well this game hit in '92 i believe, and you can tell by the
terrible graphics this game has, it really makes you respect square for what they
did with FF6 after this crap. You can't tell if a door is a door at first. It's
just really gonna mess you up, if you've been living in the 32 bit world, but
you'll adjust eventually, and learn that they just suck.
Score: 4/10
GAMEPLAY
Ahh the one part of this game that i can't really criticize.
The job system was incredibly innovative for the time this game came out, and
you've seen future games (FF Tactics) copy from this system. You get these crystal
shards from each of the crystals, that allow you to learn various jobs, like W.
Mage, Knight, Monk, Ninja, etc.. Their are quite a few of them. Each of these
jobs allow you to learn different abilities for the character you have the job
on. Very innovative, and very nice. It really amazes me that this game had a sweet
system like this. It also allows you to have 4 party members in your group, which
is a plus.
Score: 7/10
REPLAY VALUE
Well this game does have different endings, so you may want to
replay it, or save right outside of the last fight, so you can see all of the
endings. Their are 4 different endings in all. You get them by how many characters
you have alive after the final fight.
Score: 5/10
OVERALL
Well i was so disappointed by this game it wasn't even funny,
i really wanted to like this game, but god how could i....... Please do play this
game, so you can see for yourself how bad it is. And like i said, if you actually
do like it, i feel for you, cuz you need to seek help.
Fav Character: You can't pick a fav from this group of trash,
give me Relm or Strago for gods sake.
Least fav character: Every last one of them!!!!!
Best fighter: Whoever has the most jobs learned.
Worst fighter: Whoever has the least amount of jobs learned.
Favorite part of the game: When it was over.
Time to complete the game: A little over 37 grueling hours.
Final Score: 2/10
