Zidane walked out into the darkness of Lindblum. When it was nighttime in Lindblum, the city was calm. He knew that he should’ve staid in the inn, because the Festival of the Hunt was tomorrow, but something told him to go outside. Just as he stepped into the air cab and made a flight to Lindblum’s Grand Castle, he felt a strange feeling creep over him. And once he stepped out of the cab, and made his way towards the castle, he saw something. Whatever it was, it was at a far distance, and was lying on the ground. Zidane raced towards it, and as he drew near, he saw what it was… a dead body of a young girl. His soul jumped a mile away as he came to a sudden halt. He knelt down to the girl’s dead body, held her in his hands and examined her. She was about his age… what a tragic that her life ended so soon.
Just then, he noticed something on the girl. There were two small punctures on her neck… next to her arteries. Small streams of blood rolled from them and left a stain on her skin. Zidane dropped the girl’s body and quickly crawled away from her. He was too freaked out at the moment as he made distance away from the girl and himself. He couldn’t take his eyes off her though… her skin was very pale, and her eyes were wide open, pupils tiny and mouth opened by a centimeter. She was very limp when he had picked her up, and his first attempt was to scream for help once he had saw the girl. Just then, he heard a small musical sound… a flute. He turned his head towards the castle’s entrance and saw a shadowy figure enter the building. Mouth dropped, Zidane got to his feet and raced after the figure, but came to a sudden halt once he was a few yards away, so he wouldn’t be discovered.
The “figure” had turned it’s head around, to look behind itself. Zidane got a good look at it, and almost fell over in shock. It was… a girl!
She was about his age
with long brown hair pinned up in a bun and ponytail on the side of her head.
She wore a white, silk skirt with a blue ribbon tied around her waist, and red
ribbons tied in her hair, and one wrapped around her right foot and ankle. In
her hand was a small, red flute… the sound that Zidane had heard. Her skin was
light tan and her eyes were a glowing yellow, and the sight of them gave Zidane
chills running up his spine. The girl slowly turned her head forward, and then
she walked up the stairs of the castle. Zidane followed up the stairs, sneaking
but once he reached the top of them, he saw her walk only a few steps and then…
with an eerie mist arising… she disappeared from sight.
The next day, two elite guards had found the body of the girl and went to bury her at Pinnacle Rocks. Zidane joined his friends in the guestroom at Lindblum’s Grand Castle. Dagger and Steiner were chatting amongst themselves, Vivi was pacing around, and Freya was leaning against a wall, thinking to herself. Another elite guard was in the room with a list of the competitors, and as Zidane entered the room, the gossip of the dead girl had began. Steiner paid no hid about the girl, but he was wondering that if a killer was in Lindblum, he would have to protect Dagger with all his strength.
“I heard that when the guards found her, all the blood was drained from her body…” Vivi said to Dagger.
“Who would do such a thing?” Dagger gasped.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Zidane questioned.
“What?” Dagger retorted.
“Definitely the work of a vampire, and I got a good look at her, too!” Zidane replied.
“A… vampire?” Dagger stammered.
“Princess! Pay no hid to his words! He’s only trying to frighten you!” Steiner snapped, as he shook a fist at Zidane.
“What? You think I’d make something up like that?” Zidane snapped, exchanging glares with the old knight.
“Enough of this. We have a competitor who has just signed up to join you three. Come on in, don’t be shy.” The guard butted in, breaking up the fight and bringing in the new competitor.
Zidane’s eyes snapped open as the competitor entered the room. She was in a green school-girl uniform (the skirt, shoes, the whole nine yards) with white socks, gray shoes and a ribbon wrapped around her long brown hair. She had brown doe-eyes and light-tan skin. Zidane’s heart skipped a beat and he couldn’t breathe at the moment. That girl… was the vampire! But how could she survive in the sunlight? At first he wanted to scream and bust the girl of being was she actually was, but… he just couldn’t say anything. He was about to fall over in shock because he was in the same room with the murderer of that girl he saw last night.
“I am Miyu… pleased to meet you all…” the vampire replied.
“Hello… I’m Vivi…” Vivi said as he approached her.
“My name is Dagger. Nice meeting you, Miss Miyu.” Dagger said, introducing herself.
“I am Adelbert Steiner, Captain of the Knights of Pluto… pleasure meeting you.” Steiner spoke up.
“…Freya Crescent…” Freya murmured.
“I… I… I’m…” Zidane stammered.
“Mr. Zidane… I know…” Miyu replied.
“What…?” Zidane cried.
“Alright, enough! The festival will begin soon. Zidane, you will be taking the Theatre District. Lady Freya, you’ll be at the Business District, and Master Vivi shall be in the Industrial District. Now Miyu… where shall we put you?” the elite guard announced.
“…I shall take my place in the Theatre District, if that is not a problem…” Miyu replied.
“Not at all. Then… what shall you’re rewards be?” the guard questioned.
“I’ll take an Add-on.” Freya replied.
“Card, please…” Vivi murmured.
“G-G-Gil…all the way…” Zidane stammered.
“…Nothing, please. I don’t fancy a prize…” Miyu cynically retorted.
“Alright then. Then report to your posts. Good luck to you all!” the guard said as the competitors raced to the air cab.
Zidane felt spooked out as he and Miyu sat next to each other on their way to the Theatre District. He was in the same car with a vampire… it was unreal. She was silent on the way there, just staring out into space. She didn’t blink once, and Zidane predicted that she was plotting another death. Once they made it to the district, Zidane and Miyu walked out and made their way out in the open. Zidane saw one of the fangs and went chasing after it. Miyu shifted her head towards another direction, and leapt down the stairway next to the station. A creature was standing there… a very odd looking creature indeed. Zidane looked down the stairs and saw the creature Miyu was facing.
This character had a long black cloak and a mask, and Miyu faced him. The two of them turned stared at each other for a long time, and then nodded. Before Zidane could say a word, Miyu and the creature leapt into the air in opposite directions, leaping from rooftop to rooftop.
“What? No way!” Zidane cried as he slaughtered the fang.
The blonde-haired boy took his mind off the festival and chased after Miyu. He had to follow on the ground as she jumped from rooftop to rooftop, and she didn’t seem to notice he was there. She was very quick and in a way, amazing. But the one thing on Zidane’s mind was that creature that was with her who was that? He paid no hid to the creature, hence he wasn’t the one who probably killed that girl. Maybe he was behind it all… but all Zidane knew was that they were both suspects and that he was on the chase of one of the them. Just then, out of nowhere, a trick sparrow aimed right for Miyu, crashing into her ribs. The force from the impact was strong, and even surprised Miyu for a moment. She lost footing on the roof and went falling towards the ground. Zidane didn’t know what was wrong with him… he should’ve let Miyu fall. The drop probably would’ve killed her, but instead he sprinted over to her crashing area and broke her fall.
Miyu would’ve crashed onto her back and spine if it weren’t for Zidane. He had his arms out infront of him, ready to catch her. But once she fell into him, he too lost footing and fell on his back. The two were in the way of another monster. Miyu checked out Zidane, to see if he hadn’t injured himself. He was unconscious from the crash, not dead. The creature Miyu had met up with had landed next to her, and looked down at the two teenagers. He helped Miyu up by the arm, and then picked up Zidane’s limp body. Miyu gave him a nod, and the creature leapt onto of building with the boy. Miyu took on the attacking monster, easily annihilating it. She thought this festival gave humans a bad name… letting frightened creatures roam about the city, attacking civilians and then being killed for a reward. To Miyu, it was absolutely pathetic.
Once the festival was over, Zidane found himself inside an air cab, sitting next to Miyu. They were heading back to the castle. Miyu was still silent, her doe eyes glancing straight ahead, out into space. Zidane scratched his head, finally remembering what was happening. He remembered a creature with Miyu, and then Miyu being attacked, and then breaking her fall once she fell off the roof. Then all was black… he wondered if she was the one who had won the festival. Zidane sighed with grief that he had lost the festival because of a vampire girl. It was a sigh that Miyu had heard and she broke out her trance and stared at the blonde-haired boy.
“I see you’ve awakened. Are you alright?” Miyu asked him.
“Yeah… what about you? That was a pretty tough landing…” Zidane questioned.
“Oh, it’s nothing. You should be thankful that you were brought to safety before the attacking monster had caused more damage.”
“Right… umm… who won the festival?”
“That lady… Freya, I believe…”
“Oh… that doesn’t surprise me. Well, I think it’s good to find out what I can about interesting people and happenings. Same reason why I investigated that one girl’s death.”
“…So who do you believe has done it?”
“Well, it’s obviously the work of a vampire.”
“… You shouldn’t dwell on ancient myths.”
“Oh but they’re real… I met up with one, last night…”
“…You must’ve been dreaming last night…”
Once those words came out of Miyu’s mouth, the air cab came to a halt and she exited it. Zidane followed, keeping his fingers on his dagger. As the two walked into Lindblum’s castle, they made their way into Regent Cid’s room, meeting everyone else there. Freya was awarded with a coral ring and the Master Hunter item. Dagger had noticed Zidane and Miyu enter the room and smiled. She was glad to see them there, and immediately rushed over to Zidane, explaining how she was thrilled to see that he was alright. She had saw the entire scene where Miyu was attacked and had landed on him. She thought for a moment that he would’ve been dead. When Miyu asked if she saw anything after that, Dagger’s reply was plan and simple. The two were out of view for her to see anything else, thanks to some plump fellow that was thrown in the way of her view.
Miyu remained calm after that, but her calmness came to a stop once she saw a beaten Burmecian soldier. He had entered the room, his fur soaked in blood, his sight blinded by a gory assault, and half of his tail split right to the tip. He called on the regent, but once he said that word, he immediately collapsed. Freya raced to his side, holding him in her hands, supporting him. He explained to the regent that his home, Burmecia, was being attacked by an arm of dark creatures with yellow eyes and pointed hats. Miyu glanced at Vivi… he fit the description quite well. Regent Cid and Minister Artania agreed to assist Burmecia, and the soldier was getting ready to return. Before he could move a muscle, Miyu approached him, and looked at the creature. Her brown eyes transformed into a glowing yellow, and froze the creature in his place.
Before anybody could stop her, Miyu slowly opened her mouth and moved her mouth ontop his neck. Freya began to crawl away while others watched in shock as she began to drink the blood of the Burmecian. Zidane had mixed feelings at the moment, now. He now had proof that she was a vampire, but the Burmecian… was she doing him a favor but killing him? Or was this her own selfish act because of a sudden thirst urge. But after a moment of silence, and the sipping of Burmecian blood, the soldier’s eyes began to slowly close. Miyu took her mouth off his neck, held him gently by the shoulders and smiled.
“May you rest in eternal happiness…” She said to him, then slowly placed the Burmecian on the ground.
“What the hell? So you’re a good vampire, right?” Zidane questioned. Miyu stared at him, evilly.
“…I must go…” she replied.
“Please, at least answer this… were you behind that one girl’s murder?”
“Again, I must leave… don’t try to follow me…” Miyu replied and held out an arm. An eerie redness appeared in the atmosphere, and she walked towards the reddest part. As she did, she disappeared and all was normal.
“Miyu was… a vampire?” Dagger gasped.
“At least… she’s on our side…” Zidane replied.
“…She never said she was, Zidane…” Freya cynically added in.
Miyu sat on the ground, staring out into the redness of her world. Along side her was the cloaked creature, and in her arm was a pink, rabbit-like beast. She was in her silk dress and ribbons with the red flute in her hand. Her yellow eyes hadn’t have left from the incident with the Burmecian soldier, and she seemed to have made a fatal error by doing so. She had brought attention to herself, and had been now suspected of the murder. Of course, what could she have told them after what had just happened? What was it that she could’ve said that would make them believe her? And if they didn’t, she would not have any proof to defense herself. After a long moment of silence, the hooded creature spoke up.
“Why did you allow the boy to survive?” he questioned.
“He’s not the problem, Larva… he’s not the Shinma.” Miyu replied.
“Miyu, how will you find out if you’ve got him?” the pink rabbit asked.
“Why do you think I won’t be able to find him, Shiina? It’s only in a matter of time.” Miyu replied.
“You enjoy dodging my question. Well… I remember our promise so I won’t bother you with the question, okay?” Shiina replied.
Miyu smiled at the creature and replied by saying:
“Well in the mean time, the real Shinma is out there… so we best go hunting… in Burmecia…”
Miyu stepped onto the soaked ground of Burmecia as Larva and Shiina stood next to her. Shiina crawled onto the vampire’s shoulder, a method of transportation for her sake. She began to walk down the streets as the pouring rain dropped onto their bodies and rolled off them like tears of a child. The vampire continued to walk through the kingdom, and then saw her next destination… the Burmecian Palace. Her and Larva quickly jumped onto the rooftops of the households throughout Burmecia, making a quick shortcut towards the castle. As they drew near, they came to a sudden halt. A family of Burmecians: a father, wife and two children, were being chased by the dark, pointed-hat creatures. Miyu immediately leapt down, infront of the family. The creatures were not what she was after, but they were part of the terror causing it.
“Larva!” Miyu called.
Before the creatures knew it, half of them were sliced in two as Larva drove his hand through their bodies. The rest tried to attack Miyu, who had already summoned her flames, and then fired them at the creatures. She watched through the pouring rain as they began burning to death. Not even Burmecia’s eternal rain could put out her fire and save them. They only died, and did not disappear like the others had. She looked at Larva and nodded as she held Shiina close to her. The two began walking towards the palace and entered with caution. Once they walked in, they saw what they have been looking for. There was a tall, silver-haired man standing in the room, next to a plump, ugly woman and a beautiful young woman with one eye. The man was wearing the most bizarre clothing anybody could’ve ever made. Miyu disappeared and teleported to the top of a broken pillar, were she stood there out of sight.
Zidane, Freya and Vivi had already made it out of Gizamaluke’s Grotto. All Zidane could think about was Miyu… she was the only thing on his mind besides Dagger. When Miyu had left, Dagger and Steiner had snuck away as well. He figured that they probably came to Burmecia, but he wasn’t quite sure at the moment. So as they entered Burmecia, they encountered a battle with two black mages, sent by Zorn and Thorn, the Alexandrian jesters of the palace. After the crew had defeated them, Zorn and Thorn raced out and shouted at them. They told them about the General, and how she would punish them for their intrusion. Zidane prayed that “she” wasn’t Miyu for some odd reason. If she were the girl’s murderer, then he would have to kill her. But if she wasn’t… then he just didn’t know what to think. But as they drew near the castle after several invasions from monsters and black mages, all seemed to be lost.
The castle was severally damaged, and from the looks of it, the King of Burmecia seemed to have gotten killed. Zidane was lost in his thoughts, he didn’t think Dagger had come this way, and he prayed that she would be alright. Then he thought of Miyu… if she had come this way, she was definitely a bigger suspect then before. But once he saw Freya fall to her knees in sorrow and defeat, he thought he should leave her alone. A lot must’ve been running through her mind. But just then, a small, faint sound was heard in the distance. Freya leapt up in the air and landed on an outer balcony on the castle. She called down to Zidane that somebody was in the palace, and so Zidane climbed up while Vivi struggled to follow. Once Zidane reached the top, he and Freya hid behind several statues and saw something they didn’t expect to see… Queen Brahne, General Beatrix, and a sinister mystery man. Suddenly, a flute melody began to play.
“What? Who’s there?” Brahne cried as she looked about.
“Right there…” The man hissed, staring up at the pillar.
“You there! Who are you!” Beatrix bellowed, as Miyu brought down her flute.
“What are you doing here? You are not welcome.” Miyu hissed.
“What are you talking about, girl?” Beatrix snapped.
“I’m not talking to you, ma’am.” Miyu replied, turning her glances at the man, who smirked at her.
“You! You’re the Guardian, Kuja was talking about!” Brahne cried, as the man spoke up.
“Well, well, well… it seems the Guardian has finally shown herself. I must say I’m rather disappointed with you, I expected you to be here more sooner, or with one of your allies to back you. But tell me… why should I be not welcome here? It’s the same with you… you’re nothing more then a blood sucking vampire!” the man snapped.
“I am not a Shinma like you, hiding in the shadows and dwelling on human weakness.” Miyu replied.
“Heh… now aren’t we getting a little too personal? I do not intend on using humans… I only help them.”
“You help them bring an end to their lives. That is because you’re a Shinma. You don’t understand human emotion… that is why you killed the girl. Now return to the Darkness, quietly.”
“I see… I suppose we will not become friends… Princess…”
Zidane and Freya couldn’t believe what was going on at the moment. Everything was getting so strange all too soon. But once they heard the man’s words, everything was getting very clear now. Of all things Zidane had heard in his life, this was the most shocking. So Miyu wasn’t behind the killing… this man was. But why would he harm an innocent girl? Out of all people in the world… why that girl? Now it was clear and hard to swallow. All he remembered was the man’s words.
“Oh my… so… this means… Miyu is a…” Freya began as Zidane nodded.
“Yeah… she is Vampire Princess Miyu…”
