FINAL FANTASY EIGHT SEQUAL:
THE NEXT GENERATION OF DEFENDERS

WRITTEN BY: NICK L.

PROLOGUE
In a world of unparalleled evil and torment a young man named Squall Leonhart took it upon himself to rid the world of an evil army called the Galbadians. The evil sorceress named Edea once led them. But in a crusade led by one man and his best friends, they learned of mind control. Edea had been a victim of mind control, yet she worked hard to free herself from the ominous evil inside her. She was given up soon; Squall had come to her rescue. Basically Squall defeated Ultimacea and the Galbadians soon fell after.

It was eighteen years later and Squall had a son. He was named Laguna, after his godfather who had done perilous attacks against the Galbadians. Laguna was now at the age of twelve. Laguna had enrolled in his father’s garden. The old headmaster had passed away years back. Laguna could now use a gunblade flawlessly. He was at the top of his class. Laguna had once taken down a monster three times the size of him on his own. He had also learned how to summon guardian forces in a class he had gone to last year. He had, since that time, twenty-one monsters under his control. His favorite was Ifrit. He had summoned him so many times that Ifrit could now stay in the real world for as long as he wanted.

Over the years Ifrit and Laguna had become great friends. Laguna had also made friends with a rebellionous crew of three. They were all from see-d, yet they knew they were ready for the real world. They wanted to recruit to the military and take down those Galbadian scum. There was Matt, a dagger bearing slim kid that was quicker than lightning and stronger then an ogre, then James, a tall boy that carried around a lot of guns and was always looking for adventure, then Luke, a boxer with an ego problem.

The teachers had nicknamed them the four great warriors after an outing where a group of four students were allowed to face off against the teachers in a group fight. Although the teachers weren’t hurt they did loose a lot of their ego after that.

Some teachers even took it upon themselves to a grudge against the four. Like Instructor Quick for instance. Quick would follow them around trying to find a way to get them out of his class. Quick taught the use of explosives. One day the “four great warriors” built a small bomb and detonated it inside of Quick’s desk, bad idea. They were put on kitchen duties for a month.

One teacher was fond of them though, Instructor Dincht. Everyone called him by his first name because he was so easy going. Zell taught them the martial arts and mechanics. In his spare time he fixed cars in Balamb.

Laguna and his friends grew quite fond of him, too. They always went to him for advice. He would always understand their problems, for he acted their age, too. Laguna would go down to Zell’s repair shop and talk to him, Keros and Ward. Ward was once not able to talk, but now since the new medical technology was out they gave him a new voice box.

Laguna’s godfather, Laguna, was also a teacher. Laguna taught the use of weaponry. Laguna sometimes got creepy though. Sometimes he’d stop class just to tell them his new poem. The class didn’t mind though because Laguna had a great use of words.

Then of course there was Squall, Laguna’s dad. Squall taught the use of a gunblade, and being one of the most admired teachers because of his medals and the fact that he was also the headmaster gained him the kid’s respects.

In town there was a grouchy man named Seifer Almasy who repaired weapons and was also a mercenary. Seifer and Squall were rivals back in the old days, but now they were best friends.

Then Rinoa, Laguna’s mom taught people strategic plans and tactics against the galbadians. Rinoa was once a leader of a resistance faction and was now married to Squall.

Who could forget the one and only Irvine. Irvine was a sharpshooter from the galbadian garden. Along time ago he joined with Laguna’s dad to bring down ultimacea. He was now married to selfie and they were always together.

Selfie used to be a spunky girl but now she had matured a little. She taught the use of nun-chucks.

Well anyway you might have heard me say once that the galbadian army had fallen, it did, but then again it didn’t. The galbadian army had gone down nineteen years ago, yes. But now it resurfaced and it had it’s eye fixed on destruction.

Well on with the story.

CHAPTER ONE

Laguna and his friends were inside the cafeteria, having hotdogs. They were sharing jokes and laughing when a new subject came up.

“Yaw know, I was thinking about something. We’ve always talked about how fun it would be to just run off and join the army or better yet make our own mercenary task force. What about now, why should we wait. We could just hop in a car and leave.” Said Laguna.

“Ya know I’ve also been thinking about that. I mean we’re just getting bored sitting around here doing nothing. We’ve beat the teachers, beat the monsters. We’ve read all the books cover to cover, yet I still don’t know. I mean I know we made a plan to go through with operation four warriors, Yet we all know no one would hire a group of twelve year old kids like ourselves, I mean it’s un heard of.” Replied Joe.

“Yeah well,” Luke continued, “we all know we can do this. We could just go out there and do it. I know we can.”

“Let’s take a vote,” Matt said, “ all in favor of going now raise your hands.”

All four hands shot in the air without thinking. They all smiled slyly.

“I’ve got a plan,” Laguna began.

Later that day they were told of a supposedly secret mission that was to take place later that day. Yet the four already knew of their trip to timber to take down a group of galbadians. But they hid it professionally and they slipped into their uniforms later inside of their dormitories.

They planned to go to timber than run off after the battle. This is going to a night to remember they all thought as they packed all their gear. They had also made uniforms for themselves. They were planning on forming their own group. The uniform was a black coat with fur on top, black pants, a headband and a gauntlet. They stuffed their new uniform inside their luggage and wrote notes to each of their teachers and loved ones, explaining why they did what they did, and that they’d be okay. They took a car to Balamb to catch the train.

Unfortunately they had Mr. quick driving and he was doing everything he could to stop them. They needed to get there or else they wouldn’t be able to go through with their plan. Laguna winded up throwing Mr. Quick out of the car and Laguna started driving. He floored the gas and sped towards Balamb.

“Oh crap, everyone hold on to something and prepare the landing gear.” Laguna shouted over the rocking of the car.

“What landing gear?” matt asked.

“The magnetic track, activate them and hold on to something.

Matt looked up after activating the magnets and saw what the fuss was about. The train was already leaving.

Everyone held on for dear life as Laguna jumped the hill near town. They were airborne for around five seconds before the magnets found the top of the train and secured the there. They all whooped with excitement.

They exited the vehicle and swang them selves through the window to their cabin just as rinoa walked in.

“What are you guys up to back here, I heard aloud noise.”

“Oh nothing mom we just kind of hopped in.” Laguna replied innocently.

“You can’t fool me Laguna, Mr. Quick has already reported that you threw him out of a moving vehicle. Officially that was wrong, but unofficially I didn’t like him any way. Oh and next time try to not land on top the roof would ya?”

Rinoa left the room and as soon as the door hissed shut, they started talking about what they had just been through and how Laguna was now their official driver. They all layed down and went to sleep, except for Laguna. Laguna couldn’t help but feel excited about what they were going to do.

Laguna wanted someone to talk to so he summoned his best friend Ifrit. Ifrit came out of Laguna’s hand and gradually grew to his normal size. It took Laguna a couple years to teach Ifrit how to speak English, but now Ifrit could speak flawlessly.

“Hello, ifrit. You’ll never believe what just happened.’

“Oh wait, don’t tell me, you jumped a car on top of this train, right?” ifrit said.

“I keep forgetting you live in my mind, oh well. Wasn’t it fun?”

Apparently Ifrit was not in the mood for talk since he was throwing up inside of a near by trashcan. But through the hurls Laguna could hear him sarcastically say that that was a whole lot of fun, yeah right.

Laguna guessed that a two ton monster hurling would might make a little bit more noise then needed for the whole team was awake now and they each summoned their favorite monsters too. In all, they had Ifrit, Quetzocolal, Belhomit, and of course Odin. They all chatted for a while and laughed. But later on the guardians wanted to rest so they went back inside of their owner’s body. After a while they all fell asleep and when they woke up they were in timber.

“All cadets suit up and meet me on the tracks. Move soldiers!” a voice came from the intercom, it was Commander Xu.

The group of four quickly put on their equipment. Matt tucked two knuckle daggers in his knee holsters, and two more in either boot. Luke pulled on some heavy armored gloves with spikes attached to the end. James put his two six shooters in his holsters, strapped a sawed off double-barreled shotgun on his back, and on the way out he grabbed a sub-machine gun. Laguna put on his coat and necklace, grabbed his gun blade and tucked a small dagger in his belt, just in case. And before they left they threw their luggage out the window to a large empty buck.

They got off the train and hopped onto the dry roadbed. Up ahead they could see the signs of war and turmoil all over the town. There were the blast holes; the bullet holes and the all so familiar slash marks on bodies of dead warriors. Laguna casually walked over to the bucket and slipped a lid on it. He joined the rest of the unit. They already decided that they’d help this cause. They charged to the oncoming horde of galbadians.

James and Luke stopped a couple of galbadians with a mixture of some one-two punches and a couple shots off the old submachine gun. Matt and Laguna kept going slashing and stabbing their way through an army of slime. James and Luke caught up to them when they stopped in front a large monster. The monster apparently was the same kind of monster, as the one Squall had had to fight on top of the communications tower. It was an elovoret. Elovoret were large flying monsters that had mastered the arts of lightning and wind.

“Oh, crap. Get out of the way everyone I’m going to summon Ifrit.” Laguna said.

Laguna opened his mind allowed Ifrit to come out of his head. Laguna raised his hand and Ifrit jumped out getting larger by every second. Ifrit performed a flip to get ready, then lifted up a peace of lava in the air. Ifrit jumped high and hit with a two handed slam that sent it crashing down on elovoret.

“Luke use Odin.” Laguna called out above the roar of the monster.

Luke concentrated on freeing Odin. Odin jumped out of his hand. Odin was a mystical warrior that rode atop a gallant steed. Odin drew his sword and slashed through elovoret.

Odin and Ifrit were also very good friends. Odin handed ifrit his sword and retreated to the edge of the playing field. Squall nodded his head to Ifrit and they jumped high in the air and started to strike the monster continuously. Squall landed on the ground before Ifrit did so he slashed once more while squeezing the trigger sending metal shards through the monsters body.

Matt called upon belhomit. Belhomit came into the realm of the humans. Belhomit was a large fiery dragon from the mountains. Matt jumped atop Belhomits back and they lifted off into the sky. Next thing they knew they started to drop to the ground. Matt drew his daggers and slammed them into the chest of the monster as belhomit landed feet first on the ground.

James called quetzacoltol. Quetzacoltol was a lightning bird with enormous magic power. James jumped on his back.

“yee, haaaaaaaaa. Up quetzacoltol.” James shouted.

James drew his two revolvers and started pumping rounds into the monster. He looked for the entire world to be a cowboy gone mad.

They finally took down the dangerous beast. It fell down with a loud thud. They cheered and whooped until they realized they were in the middle of a battlefield.

And a battlefield it was too, for alond the road hundreds of galbadian bodies layed. They recuperated then got up and walked down the hard road towards the real battle. Up ahead they could see Squall slashing this way and that, and rinoa watching his back with her pinwheel. James strafed right while the rest went straightforward. James saw a damaged galbadian truck blown up except for one large peace. The large peace just happens to be a 40 cal. machine gun. James lifted it up with much strain and depressed the trigger. Bullet zipped through the air like a swarm of angry bees. The kick from the gun sent James flying across the road and smack into a concrete wall. James felt a sharp pain then complete black.

Further on down the road the rest of the group was having a little trouble also. The trouble came from a defense robot with four 40 cals. And a rocket launcher. The robot had them pinned down behind a high pillar with no chance of escape. They started to think that maybe they really weren’t so good after all. That was one of their last thoughts before getting barried in a see of rubble.

Chapter two

Squall put away his gun blade and hugged his wife. But when he turned around for his son. He was not there. Squall decided the best place to wait for him was the train.

When squall got on the train however the odds decreased ten fold that he’d ever see his kid again, for on his bed a letter addressed to him spoke of how his son was leaving him.

Why squall thought. Why did he have to go? Where could he go anyway? Stupid, stupid, and stupid he thought to himself.

“What’s wrong?” rinoa asked him.

“It’s our son, he’s ran way. We must search for him. We must find him before something bad happens.” Squall replied.

Just then the phone rang. Squall stared at it motionless. Finely he came to his senses and picked it up.

“Hello?” squall spoke into the receiver.

“This line is tapped so I must be brief. I am someone who cares. Your son is in Timber, still. Don’t try to find him though. He needs to learn a few things before he goes on a quest.”

“What quest!?” squall asked. But all he could here was the dial tone. There was no one there anymore.

“What’s wrong?” Rinoa asked, noticing the increasing paleness inside of her husband’s face.

“Our son is gone. We must move on. He is needed for something else.” Those were Squall’s last words before he collapsed on the ground.

Chapter three.

Laguna woke to a burning in his head. Oh, he thought, that hurt. His head felt as if someone was squeezing it as hard as they possibly could. That wasn’t all that hurt though. His whole body was burning with pain and agony.

Laguna attempted to get up but fell under the pressure of gravity on his already weakened body. Laguna knew that there was no way he was getting up anytime soon, so he looked around the room. It was a brick room with paintings on the bricks. Along the sides there were millions of books. Anywhere from galbadian armor to weapon manuals could be found. The room smelt of old leather and also a delicious scent. The delicious scent was coming from a pot in front of him. Laguna sighed and cast curaga on himself. His body felt immediately better, so he jumped up out of bed and looked in the pot. Mmmmm, mmmm, he thought to himself as he grabbed a spoon and guzzled it down.

He looked around his bed and found his gun blade and clothes. Also he found his duffel bag. That’s strange he thought as he opened the duffel bag and searched through it’s contents, I thought that I left this in a dumpster.

Looking around, he found an exit, which he proceeded to. He turned the knob and pushed open the door.

What surrounded him both appalled and amazed him. There was row upon row of doors with names on them and everything.

“what is this place?” Laguna thought to himself.

He looked around to find a familiar name but none appeared. There was nobody he knew here, yet it seemed like the rows of doors were endless.

He heard screaming coming from the room a couple ones down from him. As he looked at the door he realized it was Matt’s room. He ran towards the door and checked the knob, locked. Screw it he thought as he took out his gunblade and slashed through the doorknob. Laguna kicked the door in to find Matt on the ground. All around him there was blood. Looking around even more he noticed a creature in the corner. It was trying to suck up Matt’s energy. Laguna was so appalled that he charged the creature. The creature saw him coming however and shape shifted into a copy of Laguna. Laguna quickly stepped back and deflected the gunblade attack that the monster had issued. Laguna quickly attacked the foe with a murderous glint in his eye. This is unnatural Laguna thought. This isn’t supposed to be here as he deflected another blow. This creature w

Laguna wiped his face down with a peace of his shirt. He then proceeded to kneel by Matt. Matt was punctured in all of his major arteries. But science was no match for magic. Squall used a curaga spell and watched as the wound healed and Matt slowly came to his senses.

“Oh, I’ve got a burning headache. Oof, can ya help me up?!” Matt said as soon as he was to his feet.

“No, maybe I’ll just let you squirm.” Laguna said jokingly.

“Ya peace of crap, I’m gonna kick your butt, as soon as I get up, that is. C’Mon Laguna, help me up quit jok’n.”

“Tut, tut, tut, such foul language. Why, if your mother was here, I’m sure she’d have something to say to you.” Laguna replied helping him up.

“Well, she’s not here, which reminds me where are we.” Matt replied.

“If you must know, you’re on a ship in space. And you’re in my prison. Now you’ve just broken one of my rules, which means, I shall have to punish you.” A voice from behind them called.

The man that was behind him was dressed in full body armor. Two swords were hanging loosely from his side. The man drew his blades.

“Death is calling you, Laguna.” The man said attacking with a one two strike with his swords.

“How...uph…do you know my name?” Laguna replied parrying both blows and countering.

“Ah, now that’s the real question there isn’t it? How do I know you? Well part of that could be answered by saying I knew your dad.”

“You know my dad?”

“Of course I knew him, how could I not, He killed me after all.”

“Who are you?”

“I am Adel. Yes, it is true. I’m supposed to be dead but well if I wasn’t alive in the first place, how could I be dead? This is me in my only mortal form, strong, but mortal. You shall die, prepare yourself, son of squall.”

“Oh, cram it you moron.” Squall heard matt say this just before Matt pounced and tried to strike Adel. But Adel was too quick, for he cast a spell and sent Matt flying into a wall.

Matt recovered after a minute and ran over to Laguna’s side. They both struck at the same time, yet they were both parried and countered. Matt and Laguna got back up even slower.

All of a sudden, James and Luke came in through the door. James let loose a barrage of bullets while Luke charged to Laguna and matt’s side.

But alas, they were all knocked over and this time it seemed it was for good.

“Forgive me, son of Squall. I thought you were worthy of my attention. I’m so sorry. Go back home you pathetic loosers.” With a wave of his hand he surged up his magic and sent them all back to timber.

Chapter five

Squall came back to his senses after a day of unconsciousness. He felt bad about leaving Laguna at the hands of hope that he would survive but he really had no other choice in the matter. If he tried to go back Laguna would have already been gone since Laguna had wanted to go, and also if he did, what then. His kid might still be there but how will he ever learn in a cramped classroom with Mr. quick shouting in his ear all the time.

Anyway, it was to late now he thought. He had wasted a whole day resting when he could have found his boy, yet maybe it was the best thing to do. Laguna and his pals weren’t learning anything here that’s for sure, he thought. He wanted his boy back but now, he knew, it was time to let go. Laguna was at that critical age where rebelionous boys can turn into heroes or they can turn into gangbangers. It was really their choice. They could either make an impression in a good way or they could make it in a bad way, either way it was not his problem.

He could remember when he first heard about little Laguna. He had been so happy. He had shared joy with anyone around to hear about it. He was going to be a father he remembered himself saying. Rinoa and Squall were going to do their best to raise a kid into being a proper boy. Now it was time to let go and just watch as the time flies by and you can just relax because you know your kid will make the right decision.

Squall also knew that Laguna had a higher purpose, like he had himself. His boy was to save the world or so he hoped. Hopefully their fates would cross in the future and they could be a family again.

Chapter six.

Laguna woke up with a lot of effort. He had a splitting headache and was tired as heck. There was also the fact that he was buried in rubble from earlier when the tank had blown them up.

Laguna looked around for his friends. All around, he could only see the damage that the battle had left upon the city. Blown up cars blocked the road, while shattered windows tempted even the most durable boot. But in a corner of his eye he could see movement. It was somebody’s hand sticking out.

Laguna grabbed the hand and pulled up. The rubble scattered as Matt was pulled up. He was looking rather beaten up.

“Oh man did that hurt. I had this creepy dream about Adel. It seemed so real…” Matt started.

“That is because it was real. We were beaten for the first time. This sucks.” Laguna replied.

“ Come on, we have to find the others.” Matt voiced.

“Let’s find James. We at least know where to find him. He’s over there by that wall.”

They moved towards the rubble. There was a whole slab over the place where James was.

Laguna called upon the mighty ifrit. Ifrit grabbed the slab and threw it away.

James practically jumped out of the hole. He only seemed to be hurt a little. Just a couple bruises above his eye.

“Well, Let’s just say that that hurt. Oof, yah it hurt a lot.”

He pulled himself up and wiped his uniform off. Around that time Luke jumped up from a pile of rubble. He didn’t seem hurt at all. Only his uniform was tattered.

“What happened? Now I know I didn’t take any drugs, so that must have been real, no?” Luke quizzed.

“ No duh, ya moron. It was real, it wasn’t like some sort of spirit quest or sup’m. We got our behinds kicked out of that freaky idiot. Dang it all.” Matt replied.

“Shut up Matt, and watch your tongue. What was with that? I mean it was like something off the movies or something.”

“ All I know is what the seed teachers taught me, and this sounds like a new sorceress’s war. The third sorceress’s war. And that means there’s gonna be a lot of pain and a lot of hardship. Never the less we must hold together. We’re the only ones who know this, so we have a lot of responsibility.”

“We’ve got time, remember from section three article six from the book of the seed. When an enemy takes a hostage then returns them, they are gathering Intel, and also gathering an army. We must not go back to our parents or else we will have been a failure to the code. Instead we must train, and also gather an army.” Laguna continued.

“If you wish to train than we shall go to the samurai’s clan. The dragon clan.” Luke replied.

In a realm somewhere far away a mysterious man stood near a sphere watching the many movements of everyone in the world.

“So, It begins. The third sorceress’s war.”

PART II

FOUR YEARS LATER

I once thought yah, peace of cake. Go train a bit, then kill a sorcerer. Boy, was I an idiot. I’d spent all of my childhood learning to be the best. I thought I was. Only now at an older age do I realize. I’m not the best, and no matter how good I get; there’ll always be some one better. I’ve trained with the samurai for four years, and yet I know that I have much more to learn, for fighting is not just a matter of physical strength, but more over your mental abilities. A man once wrote, the sharpest sword is no match for the sharpest mind. Now, I believed it.

Laguna was in his room writing in his journal. He had started that journal in case he failed. Then his life lessons could be passed on to another. He had spent four years with the Samurai. Learning their ways and techniques.

His appearance had changed much over the years. He had grown a bit of a goatee and he had sleek black hair. His outfit consisted of haramaki-do or in English heavily lacquered armor. It covered his chest while his shoulder pad/spikes covered the shoulder.

His sword had changed also. It was a samurai sword with a small trigger in the handle. The hidden gun was much stronger than his old one, and much lighter.

He was in a galbadian stronghold. He was there on a covert operation for the samurai. His friends were also on this mission. Of course they hadn’t talked for a week, for they were all different ranks in this army, and even though it was fake, they must always follow the galbadian protocol or else they’d be caught.

Apparently someone had tripped the alarm on them, for the intruder alert came on and the sirens went on and off. A group of soldiers surrounded him, yet he would not be outdone. He just smirked and drew his sword.

The lead soldier attacked, yet he hit nothing but air, Laguna moved quick and dodged and swung his blade in a upward arch, slashing the man across the side, and before anyone could move, Laguna back-stabbed then slashed the soldier head.

Laguna charged forward towards the group. He span his blade, deflecting blows both behind his back and in front. He span his sword up in the air, and while it was in the air he grabbed the soldier’s shotgun and blasted the rest of the guys down.

Laguna caught the sword behind his back and then saluted the fallen soldiers before sheathing his sword.

Matt on the other hand was having a little more excitement than Laguna. A group of soldiers had also surrounded him, yet it was a much larger group.

Matt drew his katana and saluted his opponents, before getting into his battle stance. He slashed this way and that in a dance of death around his opponents, yet the sheer numbers would most likely be the death of him if he didn’t get help. But he fought with honor and dignity the whole way through. He drew his knuckle dagger and while using the Katana he also used the dagger. Spinning around and slashing, jumping and doing a couple jabs into the hearts of his opponents. Then Matt summoned up his magic and cast slow on his opponents. He sheathed his sword for a second and grabbed the kunai out of his shoes and threw them at the enemies. The whole front row was taken down. Then someone casted haste on everyone, and there was a melee of slashes getti

As if by a miracle James jumped through a window with his six shooters drawn and firing away. He landed in a somersault then jumped onto his feet.

“’sup Matt. Having a little trouble?” James said while shooting.

“nah, I just wanted to save some for you. I could have finished them off any time.” Matt replied sarcastically.

“yah right, Matt. I saw the way you were losing your touch. I think maybe you’ve forgotten some things during this mission.”

“stuff it, James.” Matt replied.

They were like brothers the way they fought. When one would fail, the other would help him up and guard his back.

But the worst was yet to come. A big machine came towards them. It had a machine gun on the top and several stabbing weapons jutting out. It charged towards Matt and James.

Laguna was running through the flashing red corridors, trying too find Luke. Luke was supposed to be in the infirmary helping the doc, but he had checked, and he wasn’t there.

There, Laguna had seen him ahead. He was in a duel between himself, and what seemed to be wedge. Wedge was a man who had been demoted by his superiors after being beaten by squall.

It looked like wedge wasn’t playing anymore when he saw Laguna. The resemblance between him and squall was remarkable. Wedge was now really mad.

“ooh. I’ve been waiting for this time for a while. Since Squall demoted me, I shall kill his son.” He said while grabbing a 40 cal. off the floor. He started blasting away at Laguna.

Laguna was to quick, he dodged the attacks and jumped behind a piece of metal machinery, while running he had tackled Luke to the ground to get him undercover of the 4OCAL.

“ Wait! I remember you, you’re that creapy old fart that we read about in Galbadian’s history. If I remember right you demoted several times for your defeat that was bestowed upon you by my father. Ya know what? You’re a true idiot.” Laguna shouted.

Wedge was really mad now. He brought the gun up to his shoulder with much effort and let loose a long barrage of bullets that zipped into the steel barrier.

“I’m gonna kill you, ya freeking imbecile.” Shouted wedge.

Laguna responded by flipping towards wedge in a death dance around the bullets until he reached wedge’s head. There he did a spinning slash and sliced wedge’s head.

“ laguna, he knew you.” Luke exclaimed.

“so.” Laguna replied.

“well,” Luke went on, “ if he knew you, than if he recovers, which he is sure to do, do to his record, he’ll tell everyone. That means they’d hunt you down and kill you and me, and everyone.”

“ you’re right of course,” Laguna continued while placing a mechanical device into wedges boot, “ yet I don’t think he’ll be talking a lot. This is a bug, and if he does wake up, we’ll hear everything. And this controller controls a bomb which is also planted inside his boot. One wrong move and we’ll blow him to a crisp. Any way we don’t have time to talk about that when Matt and James might be in danger. Let’s go!”

the two ran through the hallways at full sprint, slashing at any one in their way. Laguna picked up a fallen combat shotgun while running, and tucked it away in his belt.

Soon they found a hallway with a blast hole in it, as they looked in they saw an amazing sight. In the center of the room there was combat machine coming straight towards Matt and James. It looked as if it might crush them.

At the last second there was a shattering sound as a man in a cape slid in from a suspension cable and blew the machine into oblivion with a rocket launcher that had been strapped to his back by a series of hooks that dangled off his back pack. Who knew what was in side of it.

The man started to walk away without a look back. They could not see his face, for he had a bandana over his head and also one covering his mouth.

Laguna called after him, “ hey, wait! Who are you?”

“ some one who cares. Someone to help. We’ll meet again.” He said squarely. His voice was low and serious, yet behind that they could hear in his voice a sound of compassion.

“ but wait, that doesn’t answer my question.” Laguna called to the man, yet the mysterious visitor was gone.

“Who was that man?” luke pondered aloud.

“ well I guess he’s on our side isn’t he, Laguna?” Matt asked.

“ I have no clue. We have no idea of knowing. But at least we know we might have an ally out there……..somewhere.” Laguna said, staring out of the window and into the sky.

“ I think that we’ve pondered that to much. What say, we go to the nearest restaurant and ponder it there, I’m famished.” James voiced.

“ Maybe we shall after we report to master Oni.”

“ well than, let’s go. I don’t want to stand here talking all day. It makes my head hurt.” Matt said with a renewed sense of spirit.

As they walked towards their car in the parking lot they pondered the many questions that were bestowed upon them. Who was the mysterious man, and which side was he on……………………………………………

PART II

CHAPTER II

Squall was at his desk studying his notes that he had compiled about Laguna’s disappearance. Some how, his son was able to avoid detection from everyone for years.

Squall smiled as he remembered his cheerful son’s face the day that he was accepted to the garden. His son had trained long and hard just to get a chance to be a warrior.

It made squall sigh with sadness as he realized how much his son meant to him. He loved the little guy, no matter how annoying he sometimes got. Or, used to get.

With a final sigh he threw the papers into a locked compartment and walked to the elevator. Other than the missing emotion of his kids and his friends, everything was running smoothly. Actually, last month they had taken down a large supplier of weapons for the galbadians.

A few years ago he had started to receive phone calls from someone with a serious tone, telling him tips on how to find his son. But also squall weary of trusting him. What did he know about him? Nothing. But even though squall suspected a liar, he still kept notes on every phone call.

He hit the button that led him down to the second floor hallway. Today he would do a round of all the classes and grade each student on their performance on defeating Ifrit. Ifrit was a gf, so anyone could receive him if they defeated him.

That made him remember son even more. Squall remembered the way Laguna would run and play with ifrit. The way those two could play, it was amazing.

Also his son was the first person to teach their gf to talk, which gave them an even bigger bond with each other.

With one last sigh he walked into Mr. quick’s class and sat himself down behind the desk.

CHAPTER III

After laguna made a report to his master, him and his friends left for the nearest restaurant. It happened to be one of the nicest ones in town, even though it was a galbadian supporter.

The lights showed bright against the interior of the room, leaving a sense of calm and peace.

If only it were so, Laguna thought, for even though he enjoyed the thrill of battle, there was always that last part in which he had to force himself to finish it off. It was the samurai who taught him that killing is not meant for a convenience, but yet for a time when that was the last possible way to end a battle.

As Laguna entered the room he immediately noticed the amount of people in the room. It was strange, but something seemed out of place. But he really wasn’t in the mood to think, so rather than trying to figure it out he sat down in a booth and ordered pizza and some pop.

After about fifteen minutes the came back with the order and said it had been declined. When they asked by who, the man had pointed towards a group of soldiers who entered the room. They stared at the group of renegades and eventually walked over to them with their guns drawn.

It was then that Laguna noticed the wanted signs on almost anywhere imaginable. Laguna found that he, himself was in these pictures and so was his friends. But it was to late now. The soldiers new that they were there and they were coming.

Slowly Laguna drew his sword and layed it beside himself. He could see Matt’s hand sqeeze over his katana handle, and james’ hand moved towards his revolver that was strapped just low enough that the guards wouldn’t notice. The guards had come to take us away, aye, James thought, well then they better not be hoping for us to come silently.

As they strode over to the renegades they sniggered and cocked their guns.

“why hello there, young sirs. Enjoying your meal? Oh wait, that’s right, we don’t serve renegades here. So get up you puny sniveling punks or we shall use you for a target and blow your freek’n brains out. Now shall we?” the man asked.

“ if you think that we’re coming with you,” Matt replied, “ than you must be the dumbest person to walk the earth, and watch your tongue, there’s little kids here, we wouldn’t want to frighten them would we? Move along or I’ll cut your throat sooner than you can call your mom.”

“ why you little..” but that was all the man could say, for before he could squeeze the trigger, Matt launched an attack and slit the mans throat. All around Laguna and his friends drew their weapon, poised, and ready to strike.

The galbadians fought bravely, but to no avail, for Laguna, Matt, Luke and James were highly trained and ready to fight with all their might, whatever the situation might be. All it took was a couple one-two’s, a shot off the slick handled revolver, and a few slashes, and the men were down for the count.

The group of four left the room in a hurry and went back to their sensei.

“ master we have been detected, we have failed you.” They began.

But master Oni wouldn’t have a word of it, “ shut up, you’ve not failed me. You’ve annoyed me at times,” he chuckled, “ but you have not failed me. There is nothing to worry about. All is well now. Come. Follow me, I shall show you something.”

Master Oni led them into a large room with a locked vault at the end. Master Oni spun the dial expertly and soon the vault was open.

Inside were rows and rows of weapons and treasures for as long as the eye could see. They walked down the corridor, following Oni into yet another vault. Yet this one was much different, for it had pictures and papers tacked to the walls.

“ this is my past, my story. See I was once a renegade as you are now. I ran from home and decided to start a new life, and breaking the Samurai code, I did. I was free, yet in the pits of my stomach I thought it was wrong. I went home a year after my run-away, to find my parents still full of tears. Yet they told me what I did was right, and that it was always important to follow your heart. I pass that lesson on to you now, and also, that if you ever get lost, just remember, your parents will always be with you. Go to them.”

Master Oni had a look that was deeper than any emotion known to man. Sort of a deep sorrow, regret, and also almost a tinge of hop. If he saw that hope in Laguna and the others, they would never know. But yet they knew how deep the bonds had grown between them and their master.

It didn’t seem the right to say it but they had to, “ we’re leaving tomorrow. If they have discovered our identity, than it won’t be long before they trace you to. We’ll leave tomorrow at sunrise. This is our last night together, so good bye. By the time you wake in the morning we’ll be gone. I’d advise you to move your men else where and find some where else to live.” They said this sorrowfully as they saw the master’s face lower more.

“ I’m sorry to hear that, my friends. I will miss you much. But I’ve got one more thing to give you.”

He walked over to his cabinet and opened the doors. Inside were gleaming weapons made of gold.

“ I was going to give you these for sorceress day, but since you’re leaving, well think of them as something to remember me by.”

“ ya know, they’re awesome and everything but we don’t need anything to remember you by. Trust me, we’ll always have you in hearts, you’re like a father to us.”

“ still, I wish for you to have them. I had them made a couple years ago, custom. They’re the best. Please, take them.”

One by one the renegades threw down their own weapons and took up the highly polished gold weapons. James had two gold revolvers, a large rifle with three clips coming out the sides, and one little pistol about half the size of your hand, Matt got a golden katana with a special grip on it, and also a golden knuckle dagger. Luke had black gloves with golden armor around them, and spike coming out the ends. Finally Laguna grabbed his katana/ gunblade that had a customized grip, and a gold sheath. He strapped it into his belt.

“ thank you, Master Oni.” They muttered in awe.

“ it is the least I can do, for such good friends.” Oni responded.

In the morning Laguna woke to a blearing alarm. It was an intruder alert. Oh, no, Laguna thought as he quickly dressed and armed himself. He grabbed his duffel bag and stormed out of the room. Outside he saw that the rest of the gang were awake, and they were mighty alarmed by the blearing alarm.

“ what’s up. I’m tired, why did they have to come so soon.”

“ no one can predict the future, only change the present.” Laguna said reciting an old saying.

They ran through the hallway and into the main galley, which was where they had planned to meet up with the rest of the seed’s and defend the place. There was already a fight raging in the center between Oni, and, could it be Adel? It was, and it seemed as if adel was winning.

They shouted in sorrow and rage as Adel casted firaga on Oni and sent him to the after world. After seeing such a horrible thing they charged adel. James used his revolvers to knock him back as the rest saw to Oni. But there was nothing to do. Oni was dead.

In pure rage Laguna unsheathed his sword and charged Adel. Adel blocked using his staff. It seemed like to beat Adel was impossible. But yet, Laguna tried even harder, dipping into his reserve energy and pressing the attack. James joined in with his revolvers knocking holes into adel. Matt ran up to him and slashed back and forth as Luke flipped through the air and flipped Adel over his back.

But Adel was to strong, and he used his magic to throw them all against the wall. He laughed and charged his magic for the finishing blow. But in the rubble of the wall, Laguna’s necklace began to glow green. He surged with massive amounts of power as picked up his sword and attacked adel. The force was to strong to block and soon Laguna would be able to finish him off. And he did, too. He raised his sword expecting to be parried but instead he hit flesh sliced him in two.

With his last words he said, “you may be able to kill me, but my master will come and kill you. You will die son of Squall. But, yet, to make it this far, you’ve shown extensive knowledge of both the martial arts and the way of the samurai. You could take my place as my master’s henchman?”

“ I have only one master, and you killed him, reap my unmerciful blade, by the honor of my master I shall finish you.” Laguna said as he stabbed Adel one last time.

“ laguna, are you all right, man? You seem a bit tense.” Matt asked.

“ well, no duh. God, our master just died and you’re all sitting there asking me if I’m alright. No duh, I’m tense. What would you call losing a father-like figure to some supposed to be, a dead guy?!” Laguna asked angrily.

“ Laguna, this can’t drag you down, o.k.? you’re like our leader, man. We need to know what to do.” Luke exclaimed.

“ fine, ……. There I feel better now that I got that off my back. There’s nothing left for us here, we must return home, hence our master’s last advice. We travel to our garden!” Laguna exclaimed happily.

They were finally going home, but really in Laguna’s mind they really had no choice. They needed help and they knew it too. The only people that know how to defeat a sorceress were at balamb, Squall, Quistis, Rinoa, Zell, Irvine, and Selphie. The dream team, as they were called at shool.

But in their way, stood a dilemma. They could either brave the rugged turain in hopes to find a way out, or use the trains, which were much more indirect. If they took a train, they’d have to change buses at deling, then go to timber where they would have to take another ride to get to balamb, where they would have to rent a car and drive to the garden. But if they took the wooded, rugged trail, they’d have a more direct route, in which they would both benefit and loose. They’d be to garden quicker, yes. Yet if they went that way they’d encounter many enemies.

In the end they decided that the safest way would be best, so they were off. They grabbed some tickets and hopped aboard the train and went to their compartment. It was a spacious room about the size of a standard living room, and had a couple bunk beds, and a sofa. Near the sofa there were magazines sprawled across a table.

Matt lurched forward and grabbed a hover-board magazine and sprawled himself over the couch, while he was immersed in a trick book, with pictures of famous boarders doing tricks.

Luke, on the other hand jumped into his bead and fell asleep almost immediately. They could hear him snoring a lot, but bothered not to wake him.

James started polishing his guns in the corner of the room, and Laguna pulled out his journal and started to write,

“These were hard times, really. Being torn apart from a father like friend was just as bad as loosing your real father, or so I think. Anyway, I’m on a train heading home. I’ve often wondered what it would be like if I returned home, would there be a party where everyone celebrated, or would my parents yell at me through the night? I try not to think about these things, instead I ponder a few questions, who is adel’s master, and who was the mysterious man who popped up when ever they needed help? Could we trust this mysterious shadow who seems to know when we need help? Or was he a spy of some sort, sent by adel’s master or even the galbadians? I probably shouldn’t be asking myself this, but is my real purpose to fight off evil? Or it something higher than that? Also I think about what happened with Adel, what turned my necklace into

CHAPTER IV

What if the person in your life was taken away from you? What would you do?

Squall was suffering from a dilemma. He needed his boy back. Laguna was in his heart wherever he went.

For years squall had been devising a way to get his boy back, but all he could come up with was one key to unlock the puzzle, for that was what it was, a puzzle. The only thing he knew about where his Laguna was, was that mysterious man on the phone. That voice woke him from every dream and tore him away from his sleep. The man was the key, he must be found.

Squall was in his room on the third floor, watching the ground fly by as the garden flew across timber. A day ago he had turned his plan to reality. Squall had told his men that they were flying to timber to search for his son. He had chosen timber because the last known location of the boy had been around the perimeter of timber. He had been sighted by some of the galbadians, and to be sure, it looked like Laguna kicked their butt. He had sent spies in just a few months ago, and they were gathering information as he spoke.

Also another message had been intercepted from the mysterious man. It seemed that Laguna was boarding a train from timber. The man had been quite conserned for some reason and had put down the phone abruptly.

As he looked out the window he found that a train was leaving. Could it be the one with Laguna aboard it, squall wondered. There was only one way to find out,

“ stop the garden. We’re going down to that train. Quistis, zell, Laguna, Seifer, Selphie, RAJIN, Fujin, Kiros, rinoa, and ward get suited up. I’ll meet you in the garden festival arena. Quick, hurry up!” Laguna spoke into the mike.

He strapped on a black sky suit and grabbed his gunblade, just in case, then he ran to the garden fest. Arena. When he arrived he found that the rest of the team were waiting.

“ alright everyone, we’re going down onto that train via these jump cables. Be quick and swift to search for our cadets so as not to disturb the people on the train. Under no circumstances will you flash your uniform or I.D. this is illegal as it is. Let’s get our boys back. Move out.”

They proceeded to tie harnesses made of tight fibers to their jackets and ran a loop of fibers through their harnesses. They jumped into the wide open air feeling the wind wip by them in a frenzy. They slowed their decent by putting an iron grip onto the fiber rope. They landed on the roof of the train in only two seconds and they cut their ropes off. They proceeded to open the hatches and flip into them to search for their cadets. It was Squall who found them inside of a cozy room with all of them asleep in the room. But it seemed that by instinct Laguna’s eyes flashed open and he retrieved his sword. He shouted to the others to wake up. They all jumped to combat attention and drew their weapons at the would be enemy.

Squall laughed happily as he tore off his mask and surprised the whole group of soldiers by his identity. Laguna rushed forward and gave his dad a hug.

“ I missed you dad!” Laguna spoke into Squall’s coat.

“ And I you, Laguna! Say, I thought you were going to be a gunblade wearer? What’s that strapped around your waist?”

“ It’s still a gunblade father, but it’s Japanese. It was given to me by my samurai master who taught me the use of mind over matter. See, the triggers down here and the clip goes in here.” Laguna replied showing Squall the basic points of his weopon.

“ well that’s a fine blade, son. Where have you been all these years?” squall replied.

“ um, sorry to interrupt your little get together but the train has stopped, and that’s not scheduled.” Luke interjected.

“ let’s go, son. The galbadians are probably after us.”

Squall signaled the rest of the team to exit as he jumped through the hatch in the roof. The team in the train compartment followed squall out the window. When they looked up they found the shining garden hovering over the train. They could see galbadian tanks surrounding the train. They could see zell and the rest waiting for a cable for them to get off the train. Matt went first up the fiber rope and jumped through the garden hatch. He threw down the rope to the rest of the troops. Slowly but surely they all got onto the garden. They could see that far below them the train was getting shot up by the galbadians.

The team didn’t have anything to worry about though, for they were high enough that regular guns wouldn’t work. But that wasn’t the galbadians plan, for a minute later a roaring could be heard and before the garden could move the air craft was upon them.

It was the lunatic Pandora, and after all those years, it was ready to take revenge, with rocket capabilities and swivel missile turrets, it wasn’t there to mess around.
