I stared up at the man. “I dislike it when two students fight,” he said in a stern voice..
“Yes, headmaster,” we two said in unison.
He nodded. Then a clerk burst through the door, “Squall, we got them!”
The next day the whole Garden knew. The Naktarak were cornered in the Trabia region. The SeeD we assembling. I sat alone in the Training Centre. Or so I thought, “Hello Lisa,” I said to the girl behind the bush. She stepped out looking stupid.
“Sorry. I just heard you and Kilkine joined Leonheart’s Gunbladers for the fight.”
I nodded. She smiled. For a whole minute she watch the rag in my hand as I went up and down the blade of my weapon.
“I know this sounds stupid but… I wanna join the Gunbladers!” She burst of unexpectedly.
I silently nodded stood up and beckoned her to the dorms. I reached my room and went to the door, “Follow me.” I told her, she nodded and looked about. I went to the wardrobe and pulled out a thin , long box and handed it to her. She opened it. Inside was a gunblade. Revolver, six shot chamber, fire ammo and a little chain with a pair of wings and a halo on it.
“Well, Madam Sorceress if that’s all?” I pointed at the door. Lisa Heartly walked out grinning.
I am a student of the SeeD forces at Balamb
Garden. My name is Daniel Beleth. Although I am a Gunblader I also have a spear. I call it Raging
Fire. My family are all but dead. My father is an accountant in Ester, my
mother a Resistance Leader in Timber. My brother is a sniper/assassin. My
sister is also a SeeD stationed at Trabia. I have an Uncle in Fisherman’s
Horizon and an aunt in Galbadia. Other than that all gone. Although I deny it,
I do like Lisa. Her father is my boss, her mother my Magic Teacher. Not easy.
So other than that there is, Steven. He is the son of an ex-mercenary, Seifer
Almsly. Then there is Dave. His dad’s the head of Martial Arts Prof. Zell
Dincht. Ali is the cool selective ,in my opinion Jack-ass, and an assassin. Ced
is a crazy, half-a-bob-short git who thinks he is gods gift to women. The
ladies that hang around us are the type who don’t care about blood and killing.
After all we are stone cold killers. Kelly. Well she is a Gunblader and
does the same classes as me. We fight and this morning got pulled up to Leonhert's
office. Also are Sara and her pal who says her name is Vilia. It isn’t but we
pretend we don’t know.
I nodded
at Steven. “So next do you get next?” he said smiling.
“Martial
Arts!” Dave yelled.
“Sniper,”
Ali replied.
“Magic,”
Said Steven.
“Sadly,
we have Social and Politics with Trepe.” Sara said speaking for ‘Vilia’.
“Bushido
with Nobutuga,” was my answer.
Kelly nodded an affirmative. I walked off with
her following. I spun fast as lightning with a Samurai blade held high. She
grinned as hers met it. We sparred every day now. Anywhere. Anytime. I once
caught her in my room. We were panting after fighting for a half hour.
Footsteps. We froze hide the swords and grinned at Instructor Gwand. After she
was gone we resumed the fight. The minute the bell sounded the blades were gone
and we were both respectable students again. “Next time, hottie,” Kelly said
stalking off.
“Yeah any
day now, babe.” We often tried to annoy each other like this. I sat down at my
desk. Nobutuga walked in and sat at his low, table on his little purple
cushion. He smiled and nodded at me. I lowered my head and concentrated my
energy. Out of thin air, a low figure rose. He lashed out with a Samurai sword.
“This is a G.F I created. I named his after the leader of the last Samurai
resistance in 18th century. Katsumoto. He is trained in Bushido and
the way of the Samurai blade. His devastating attack is Kirisame Faia which translated means,
Raine of Fire.”
Nobutuga
nodded smiling. He stood. “A very impressive show on arts. Very well done!” I
nodded. “See me after class, Kelly and Daniel.”
We
sullenly nodded. This was about the fight no doubt. He, however, asked us, “You
wish to learn the way of the Samurai and be Gunbladers?” We nodded. “To use
gunblades and our sword?” Again we nodded. “Hard indeed. But myself and
Commander Leonheart made you these. Use them to learn of your lives and
destiny.”
He lay
two boxes on the table. We opened them. Inside were…well really they were
Samurai swords with a barrel embedded in the bottom of the blade. Also a
trigger was placed in a position were it could be pulled easily. We both nodded
and thank him.
“Arigato,
Master Nobutuga.” I said to him.
“Enough
formalities. Lets get this Bushido going. We train for up to a decade if needs
be in the Dead Hand. Don’t let the name startle you. We’re funded and hosted
here. LET’S GO!!”
So for
six hard weeks we were taught Bushido and Hunio (the art of the gunblade).
Then one
week as I was coming out of Space Flight class. I saw Kelly alone in a corridor
with the Disciplinary Committee surrounding her.
“Hey,
Almsly! Back off!” I yelled.
“Screw
you! Bushido boy!” Steven yelled back.
“The only
art you know is Karma Sutra! You practise every night with Juin, right? ” I
jeered back. He dropped the file drew his sword and rushed at me. I pulled out
my Samurai-Gunblade(Now named the Bushido-gun) which I had named Leviathan
after my other G.F, the water beast. I struck out, cutting his blade in two
then I hit him with the hilt. He stumbled and I kicked his in the throat. Juin
pulled Kelly up and shouted, “I’ll kill her here and now!”
“Go on,”
I replied, “She means nothing to me!”
She
smiled and clenched her fist hard making a painful situation for any man
without nerves of steel. He would need other parts of steel too with it being
Kelly.
Steven
raised to have two of the Bushido-gun’s pointing at him. “Boo!” yelled Kelly
and he feinted. She smiled and walked off.
I rounded
the corner and bumped in to Lisa. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the Car
park. The Commander was there. He smiled, “Its time!” I nodded we ran outside
to see the assembled Gunbladers. My Master smiled, “I will come too. I must
teach you: the arts of war like Kenjutsu
,Swordplay, Yawara ,unarmed combat, Kyudo ,Archery, and Iaido ,The art of
drawing the sword in battle, Okay?” We nodded in agreement but it would be
dangerous. “Daniel, I relying on you out there.” I shook my head. “A man once
said, ‘Let people get on with their own problems.’”
Squall
looked puzzled, “What kind off fruit-loop said that?” he asked.
I smiled
slyly, “You!” The door slid shut and the Ragnarok lifted off.
