I want to be a Dragoon.
Hi! This fanfic is about how Kain became a dragoon…(duh)
As you probably already know, all the characters of my story are characters of FFIV, and I didn’t make them up… Before you read this, I’ll answer one question: Yes, I REALLY like Kain, together with Cecil he’s my favourite character J. This is my first fanfic, so please tell me what you think of it. Thanks! Enjoy!
Master Highwind looked out of the window. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and a soft breeze was blowing through the trees. He sighed. “I know his Highness doesn’t agree, Kain, but the blood of the Dragoons runs through your veins. Don’t forget that!” The little boy, that was sitting on the floor next to the window, nodded. “I know, dad…but the King wants me to become a Dark Knight, just like Cecil!”
The Master turned around, facing his son. “That’s how he feels about it, but what do you want?” Kain looked down. “I don’t know. I don’t want to dissapoint him…” He whispered.
Kain slowly opened his eyes. For a second, he didn’t know where he was, but then he realized he was lying in bed. “The blood of the Dragoons runs through your veins…” That phrase echoed through his mind. It was almost 5 years ago since his father had died, and Kain had a lot of memories of him, but every night he heard his father say that one phrase.
He got out of bed, walked to the other side of the room and looked in the mirror. He was only 13, but already very handsome, and well liked by the girls. He had the looks of his father: long blonde hair, deep blue eyes, tall and slim…Unfortunately, there was only one girl he really liked: Rosa. But she was more interessed in Cecil. Kain started when somebody banged on the door. “Kay! Get up! It’s time!” He recognized Cecil’s voice. He pushed his back against the door and whispered: “I’m not going…” For a moment, it was quiet on the other side of the door, but then he heard Cecil answer: “Why not? You have to! The King’s waiting for us!” Kain sighed and opened the door. Cecil looked at him surprised. “Is something wrong?” He asked, worried. Kain shook his head and sank down on his bed. Cecil stared at the lance against the wall, next to Kain’s bed. “You still don’t know what to do?” He asked. Kain shook his head again. Cecil sat down on the bed as well. “I’m sorry Kay, I can’t help you with that. You have to decide for yourself…” He said. “Yeah, I know.” Kain mumbled. “You go ahead, I’ll be right there.” Cecil jumped up. “Alright, but don’t be late!” He yelled while sprinting of the stairs.
“Line up!” The Instructor yelled. All the students took their swords and stood in line. In the middle of the training room there were 4 wooden puppets hanging from the sealing. One puppet wore Trojan armour, the second was dressed like the monks of Fabul, the third wore clothes similar to the ninjas of Eblan and the fourth was dressed like an inhabitant of Damcyan. The Instructor walked past the students. “Now we’re going to test your fighting skills. Watch this.” He took a sword from one of the children and stood in fighting position. “Everybody pay attention! This will be your exercise!” With a yell of rage he stormed torwards the puppets. Kain held his breath as he watched the Instructor fight. It seemed like just looking at the armour strengthened the man’s fury. After he slashed the fourth puppet, he wiped the sweat of his face and shouted: “Your turn now, concentrate!” The students followed the Instructor’s orders and attacked the puppets with all their might. Kain was right behind Cecil. Cecil grinned at him before letting out a furious scream and sprinting to the middle of the room.. Now it was Kain’s turn. He sighed and held up his sword. Just like Cecil, he ran to the puppets, but when he wanted to slash the first one, the sword slipped out of his hands and fell on the floor. He looked up, helpless and embarrassed. He saw Cecil, looking at him, worried. The Instructor shook his head. “That’s already the fifth time, Kain!” He yelled. A couple of boys started to laugh, but Cecil gave one of them a kick. That’s when Kain decided it was enough. He turned around and calmly walked to the back of the training room. There were a few spears lying on the floor. He took one of them and looked at it closely. “What are you…” The Instructor couldn’t finish his sentence because Kain screamed and threw the spear torwards the puppets. It went right through the one with Trojan armour and hit the one dressed as a monk in the chest. The Instructor stared at him with open mouth. “How the hell did you…”
“Kay, the King wants to see you!” Cecil yelled while running into the dressing room. Kain closed his eyes. “Oh no…” He thought. Cecil was jumping up and down. “Come on, come on! He’s waiting!” Kain rubbed the blade of his sword. “Yeah, yeah, I’ll go…later.” He mumbled. Cecil stopped jumping. “Hey, you don’t know what news he’s got!” He laughed. “And you’ll never know if you don’t come with me NOW.” He started jumping up and down again. Kain sighed. “Alright then, but stop jumping, you’re making me nuts.”
If Cecil wasn’t right behind Kain, he would’ve turned around and run away. He was scared out of his mind when he was standing in front of the door leading to the throne room. He knocked on the door quietly, hoping the King wouldn’t hear it. Cecil rolled his eyes and banged on the door. Kain slapped his head. “Aw…” The Instructor opened the door and let them in. Cecil had absolutely no problems, but Kain almost crept in. King Baron was sitting on his throne, looking at some papers. “Kain is here, your Majesty.” The Instructor said. Kain looked at him, helpless. The King looked up from his papers and smiled. “Yes, Kain, I wanted to talk to you about your studies. Your Instructor just told me…” Kain interrupted him. “Please forgive me, your Highness! I know I shouldn’t have…I won’t…” Baron stood up from his throne and laid his hands on Kain’s shoulders to comfort him. “Your Instructor just told me you can handle the spear very well.” Kain turned to the Instructor, confused. Cecil was grinning. “Kain’s been practicing!” He said. Baron nodded. “Your Instructor has informed me about your prestations in the training room. Well, he agrees with me, mabye it’s better if you become a Dragoon, instead of a Dark Knight.” Kain couldn’t believe his ears. “W…what? But, you wanted me to…” Baron waved his hands. “Yes, yes, I know I wanted you to master the Dark Sword, but you’re just like your father: at first, I wanted him to be a Dark Knight too, but imagine what great loss that would’ve been for the Dragoons!”
Kain was staring at him with big eyes, what made Baron burst into laughter. The Instructor wrapped an arm around Kain’s shoulders. “Let’s get you some armour, son.”
The End.
